Shih Tzu History

Like the Pekingese. the Shih Tzu comes from the Celestial Empire of China. The Shih Tza is descended from the Lhasa Apso. The breed was revered by the Buddhist monks of Tibet because of its resemblance to the sacred lion. The name Shih Tzu, in Chinese, means lion. the Shih Tzu arrived in Europe in 1930 and was immediately taken up by English dog lovers and breeders.

Shih Tzu Description

The Shih Tzu typically measures to 10 at the withers (space between the shoulder blades), and weigh from 12 to 15 pounds. The Shih Tzu has a sumptuous coat with a thick beard. mustaches. and a heavy ruff. His eyes are large and dark. and do not protrude. His plumed tail is attached high and should be carried curled over his back. His coat may be many colors, and white markings on his front parts and the tip of his tail. It is vital that the Shih Tzu be brushed daily.
